BOV Division 1: Lija make it four wins in a row

Manuel Palomino Farinez was the hero for Lija Athletic as he scored twice in a 2-1 win over Vittoriosa Stars in one of the three BOV First Division matches in programme at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

The Colomobian put Lija ahead after just five minutes and although Oscar Guerrero equalised thanks to a penalty on the 31st, Palomino Farinez made it 2-1 on the 90th.

Zejtun Corinthians registered a fine 4-1 win over Qrendi. Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe put Zejtun ahead on the 12th minute and although Alex Nilsson converted a penalty to equalise for Qrendi on the 27th, Jurgen Suda restored the lead for the Corinthians thanks to a penalty on the 3th and goals by Adrian Carabott on the 45th and Rafael de Fex Mariaga on the 63rd sealed the issue for Orosco Anonam’s side.

In another match a goal by Nicholas Pisani on the 5th minute handed Pieta Hotspurs a narrow win over Zebbug Rangers.

Lija lead the way with 12 points, followed by St. Andrews, Qrendi, Qormi and Pieta on 7, Pembroke and Naxxar 6, Zejtun, Zebbug and St. George’s 5, Swieqi 4, Fgura 3, Vittoriosa and Mqabba 1.
