Malta takes on Armenia in Futsal friendlies

The Malta futsal team will be playing two friendly matches against Armenia on Thursday and Friday.

Malta futsal coach Vic Hermans has named a 14-man squad with the selected players representing the four teams taking part in this season’s Futsal Elite Championship. Hermans’s selection features five Luxol St Andrews players, four from Valletta, three representing Swieqi United and two players from the University of Malta Futsal Team.

This week’s friendlies will see Malta and Armenia meet again following their encounter in the FIFA Futsal World Cup Qualifying group in Sweden last February. Armenia won a balanced match 3-1 in Alingsas.

Hermans has made several changes from the squad for the 2020 Futsal World Cup qualifying tournament in Sweden, calling up Valletta keeper Brandon Debono and club-mate Kurt Bartolo, Carl Azzopardi and Aidan Micallef from Luxol, and the Swieqi trio of Firas Aboulezz, Aaron Montebello and Armando Gjepali. The inclusion of Aboulezz means that he is now in line to represent Malta in futsal having earned a call-up to the national senior football squad in 2015.

The friendly matches between Malta and Armenia will be played at the National Sport School in Pembroke on Thursday and Friday, both kicking off at 20:00.
