Floriana, Hibernians share spoils in 2-2 draw

Leaders Floriana maintained their unbeaten record in the BOV Premier League but only managed to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Hibernians at the National Stadium on Sunday.

With this draw, the Greens retain a four-point lead over the second-placed team who are now Sirens after the St. Paul’s Bay side defeated Gzira United. Hibernians, on the other hand, are now alone in fifth place, three points behind Sirens.

Hibernians managed to take the lead on the 9th minute when Dunstan Vella served Leonardo Nanni on the right and off the latter’s cross, Bjorn Kristensen slotted the ball past Akpan.

Floriana went close on 27 minutes when Diego Venancio released Kristian Keqi inside the area but the latter’s effort was blocked by the Hibs goalkeeper and two minutes later, Tiago Adan Fonseca served Brandon Paiber whose low shot was parried by Jovicic.

Floriana equalised two minutes from the end of the first half when Ryan Camenzuli, served by Kristian Keqi on the left, entered the penalty area and beat Marko Jovicic with an angled shot.

Twenty three minutes in the second half, Floriana were awarded a penalty after Dunstan Vella floored Kristian Keqi inside the area and the Albanian attacking midfielder made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Hibernians restored equilibrium on the 76th minute when off an assist by Kristensen from the left, Jake Grech’s fine effort saw the ball hit the crossbar before ending at the back of the net.
