Birkirkara secured the services of Spanish winger Diego Ángel Capel Trinidad.

Thirty-one year old Diego Capel played was on the books of Olula CF, FC Barcelona and CD Oriente at youth level before joining Sevilla FC. He was transferred to Sporting in Portugal where he spent four years before short spells with Genoa in Italy and Anderlecht in Belgium. He moved back to Spain to join Extremadura.

Diego Capel made his debut for the national team in a friendly match agaist Denmark in August 2008 and then played in the World Cup qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina the following month.

The club has also signed Italian defender Claudio Bonanni.

Twenty-two year old Bonanni started his career with AC Milan and had spells with Pavia and Varese before moving to Caratese. Later, he played for FC Kamza in Albania before moving to Italy to play for Castellanzese.
