Qrendi moved three points behind joint-leaders Zejtun Corinthians and Lija Athletic thanks to a 4-1 win over St. George’s in one of the two BOV First Division matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
A penalty three minutes in the second half handed Qrendi the lead and Bydasser Sammut doubled the score on the 68th. Jonatan Silveira da Silva made it 3-0 on the 77th with Dylan Caruana pulling one back on the 86th. However, Lee Joe Schembri sealed the issue with a fourth goal on the 77th.
Vittoriosa Stars, on the other hand, collected three important points in a dramatic 2-1 win over Pembroke Athleta.
Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza put Pembroke ahead on the 6th minute but Luca Casha equalised on the 61st, hitting home once again on the 93rd minute.
Zejtun and Lija lead the way with 29 points, followed by Qrendi on 26, St. Andrews on 25, Pembroke 23, Naxxar 22, Pieta’ and Swieqi 19, Zebbug 17, Qormi 16, Vittoriosa 15, Mqabba and St. George’s 14, Fgura 12.
