San Gwann missed out on the top spot after suffering a shock defeat to Xghajra Tornados in one of the three matches from the BOV Second Division at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Royter Degiorgio put Xghajra ahead after just three minutes and on the half-hour, Michael Scicluna doubled the score. Royter Degiorgio sealed the issue with a third goal deep into stoppage time.
Rabat Ajax defeated Kalkara United 6-4 in a ten-goal thriller.
Liam Reno Gatt put Kalkara two goals ahead with goals on the 10th and the 13th minute. Kurt Muscat reduced the gap on the 22nd minute but Aaron Agius made it 3-1 five minutes later. Nicolai Attard scored a second goal for Rabat on the 31st and three minutes later, Chris Vella levelled matters. Four minutes in added time, before the end of the first half, Kurt Muscat put Rabat ahead for the first time. Chris Vella converted a penalty on the 53rd and then completed a hat-trick with another goal on the 68th to put Rabat 6-3 ahead. Randall Refalo converted a penalty to score a fourth goal for Kalkara.
Zabbar St. Patrick collected three important points in the battle against relegation as they defeated Mellieha 2-0, courtesy of Aud-Gustin James Obaje on the 5th and Shawn Vella on the 67th.
