National Amateur Cup: Mellieha, Msida reach quarter-finals

Mellieha and Msida St. Joseph joined Siggiewi, Kalkara United, Zurrieq and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s in the quarter-finals of the National Amateur Cup as they both registered wins in matches from the Round of 16 at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday.

Mellieha found no difficulty in defeating Gozitan side Munxar Falcons 7-2.

Michael Micallef put Mellieha on the 6th minute and Cleiton Jose Hinrichs doubled the score on the 17th. Justin Zammit made it 3-0 on the 31st and eight minutes later, Jonathan Cutajar scored a fourth goal. Michael Micallef made it 5-0 three minutes from the end of the first half. Three minutes in the second half, Micallef completed his hat-trick. Munxar reduced the gap on the 64th minute thanks to Aron Buttigieg but Simon Cutajar scored a seventh goal on the 85th minute. The Falcons scored another goal three minutes from time thanks to an own goal.

Meanwhile, Msida St. Joseph defeated Gharghur 2-0 thanks to goals by Lian Xuereb on the 66th and Timothy Thomas on the 96th.
