A brace by Fernando Javier Brandan handed Lija Athletic a surprise 2-1 win over Floriana at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.
Lija remain second from bottom but now lie just three points behind Tarxien Rainbows.
Floriana, on the other hand, continue to disappoint as they have now gone eight matches without a win, suffering five defeats and collecting just three points in draws.
Lija took the lead on the 26th minute when off a cross from the right, Fernando Brandan slotted the ball home past goalkeeper Andrea Cassar.
Eight minutes later, Lija doubled the score when Miguel Perez Jimenez sent Fernando Brandan through and the latter lobbed the ball over the Floriana goalkeeper.
Floriana pulled one back on the 58th minute courtesy of Jurgen Pisani who tapped the ball home from close range following a freekick by Kristian Keqi from the left.
Six minutes in added time, the Greens were reduced to ten men after Alex Cini picked a second yellow card for a foul just outside the area.
