Futsal: Swieqi win direct clash

Swieqi United confirmed their good form of late as they won a direct encounter against University of Malta. On the other hand, the two title contenders Valletta and Luxol also obtained precious wins as the seventh round of the FMA Futsal League was played at the National Sports School in Pembroke and the De La Salle Pavilion in Vittoriosa.

Swieqi won the crunch encounter against University of Malta 4-1. It was a match full of emotions as both teams battled it out till the final whistle. In the end, it was the Swieqi outfit who had the last laugh as they clinched three important points. Robert Stoyanov put Swieqi ahead on nine minutes while Riano Garcia and Karl Sciortino extended the lead for their team. The Students reduced the gap through a free-shot by Denis di Maio. However, Swieqi rubberstamped their victory through Karl Sciortino who completed a personal brace.

Champions Luxol managed to grab two victories in three days as they easily saw off Marsaskala and Naxxar respectively. In the match against the Seasouthsiders, the St Andrews side won 17-1 with Mark Zammit in inspirational form as he netted a poker. Meanwhile Maicon, Andy Mangion and Gia Nikvashvili hit the target three times, Carl Azzopardi grabbed a brace while Giancarlo Sammut and Emil Raducu confirmed Luxol’s win. Marsaskala scored their consolation goal through an own goal.

Three days later, Luxol grabbed another precious victory after a 10-1 mauling against Naxxar Lions. Carl Azzopardi was in fine form as he netted a hat-trick while Maicon, Giancarlo Sammut, Emil Raducu, Dylan Musu and Veve also hit the target for their team.

Valletta kept the pressure on the top position of the table as they easily saw off Marsaskala 15-1. Shimada Tairoku, George Frendo and Melvin Borg netted a hat-trick with Claudio Venuto notching a brace. Sergio Hili, Zvezdan Vukovic, Daniel Mifsud and Ryan Gatt completed the score for the Citizens. Josef Balzan was Marsaskala’s goalscorer.

Ta’ Xbiex obtained their fourth win of the season as they defeated Qormi 5-0. Stefi Cale confirmed his good form as he scored a brace while Christian Wismayer, Jacob Gauci u Glenn Bonello confirmed their team’s win.

Ta’ Xbiex emulated their performance even in the match against St Georges as they won 7-1. Stefi Cale stole the show again with a hat-trick while Glenn Bonello, Matthew Fenech, Jason Gauci and Bernard Sciberras were on target for their team.

On the other hand, Mellieħa registered an 8-1 scoreline against Ibraġġ. The Northerners scored through a hat-trick by Ervin Rigo with Armando Gjepali (2), Joshua Tonna, Gregory Busuttil and Shataizan Zarb putting their names on the score sheet.
