Sliema, Birkirkara share spoils in 2-2 draw

Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a direct clash for fourth place at the National Stadium on Saturday. A result which leaves the Stripes one point ahead of the Blues.

This was the fifth win in six matches for Birkirkara while Sliema are now unbeaten in five matches with three draws and two wins.

The Wanderers managed to take the lead on the 24th minute when Michele Sansone released Juri Cisotti on the right and off the latter’s cross, Danny Holla slotted the ball past goalkeeper Alessandro Guarnone.

Birkirkara equalised on the 31st minute when off a throw-in by Cain Attard, Luke Montebello flicked the ball in style off the upright to end at the back of the net.

The Stripes forged ahead nine minutes in the second half when off a cross by Luke Montebello from the left, Caio Prado hit home from close range.

Birkirkara had Oscar Carniello sent off on the 79th minute after receiving a second yellow card.

Five minutes from time, Sliema notched the equaliser when Dejan Vukovic had a shot from the right blocked and off the rebound, he served Danny Holla who slammed the ball home.
