Futsal: Three teams finish on top

Local futsal is experiencing an intensive and exciting week as three teams finished their commitments at the top of the table with 29 points as Luxol, Swieqi and Valletta claimed maximum points in their respective encounters.

Following a win over Ta’ Xbiex, Luxol joined Valletta and Swieqi at the summit with 29 points each. As a result, article 35 of the competition rules was triggered and a decider to determine the direct finalist is needed. The decider to be played on Monday, will be between Valletta and Luxol according to the mechanism of article 35. The winner will go directly to the final of the 25th whilst the loser of the decider will face Swieqi in the semi-final on the 23rd.

In a top of the table clash, Luxol and Swieqi shared the spoils in an entertaining 4-4 encounter. Swieqi were on target through Aaron Montebello, Eduardo Riano, Steven Camilleri and an own-goal. Luxol produced a fierce reaction and had Marwan Telisi, Mark Zammit, Gia Nikhashvili and Dylan Musu hitting the target.

Valletta Futsal maintained their pace as they saw off Naxxar Lions 9-1. Camilo was an inspirational figure for the Citizens as he netted a hat-trick while Otero and George Frendo had a brace each. Zvezdan Vukovic and Ryan Gatt completed the score for Valletta.

Luxol were in action also on Saturday as they were victorious over Ta’ Xbiex. The final 7-0 score line showed their superiority. The goals were courtesy of Giancarlo Sammut (2), Leanderson, Celino Alves, Everton Veve, Matthew Attard and Mark Zammit.

In other matches, Mellieħa Futsal were better than Qormi, beating them 6-3, University of Malta beat Ta’ Xbiex 5-2 while St George’s Futsal defeated Marsaskala 7-6.
