Futsal national team finishes sixth in Croatian tournament

The Malta futsal national team had to settle for sixth place in the Futsal Week Summer Cup which was held in Porec, Croatia.

After beating Montenegro 5-2 and San Marino 1-0, Malta seemed set to secure the second place in Group B but a shock 2-1 win for Montenegro over Saudi Arabia meant that Saudi Arabia, Montenegro and Malta finished their commitments on level points. Saudi Arabia and Montenegro took the top two spots in the group due to a better goal difference.

Malta therefore had to play the final for fifth/sixth place against the Solomon Islands, who are ranked 50th in the world, compared to Malta’s 112th place.

The Solomon Islands won 3-1 to finish fifth.

Italy won the tournament after defeating Saudi Arabia 6-0 while Finland took third place, beating Montenegro 7-0.
