Neighbours Gzira, Sliema share spoils

Gzira United and Sliema Wanderers continue to chase their first win after sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

This was the second consecutive draw for both sides after both had lost their first game and therefore they continue to share the third place from bottom on two points.

Gzira lacked the injured Ricardo Correa while Sliema had two players making their debut – Julius Bliek and Valmir Berisha.

Jefferson de Assis put the Maroons ahead on the 6th minute when he received a through pass by Martin Davis, hitting home past goalkeeper Justin Haber.

Maxuell Maia was unlucky to hit the foot of the post for Gzira with a header when served by Thiago Espindola.

Joao Miguel Fernandes de Lima levelled matters on the hour, beating Justin Haber with a fine shot.

The Maroons were unlucky to hit the woodwork once again with a Thiago Espindola free-kick, deflected by a defender.
