Women’s League: Mgarr, Swieqi score seven

Swieqi United and Mgarr United registered identical 7-0 wins on Tuesday in match day 3 of the Women’s League.

At the Mgarr Ground, Swieqi defeated San Gwann. Andy Zammit Mizzi put Swieqi ahead on the 12th minute and six minutes later, Kelly Agius Pace doubled the score. Agius Pace made it 3-0 on the 29th and just before the end of the first half, Dorianne Theuma scored Swieqi’s fourth. Two minutes in the second half, Mandy Debono increased the lead with Simone Buttigieg adding another on the 71st and Amy Busuttil scoring the seventh goal on the 83rd.

At the Centenary Stadium, Brenda Borg scored five as Mgarr United defeated Mtarfa.

Borg scored on the 7th and the 11th to hand Mgarr a two goal lead in the first half and was quick to score twice early in the second half – on the 47th and 49th – to put them four goals ahead. An Amber Grech brace on the 52nd and 70th increased the lead further before Brenda Borg scored Mgarr’s seventh four minutes from time.

On Wednesday, Birkirkara beat Raiders Lija 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium.

An own goal by Georgiana Mifsud on the 17th minute paved the way for Melania Bajada’s side. Lexine Farrugia doubled the score on the half hour and Charlene Zammit sealed the issue with a third goal on the 76th.

Meanwhile after match day 3, Birkirkara lead the way with maximum points in the Women’s Under-20 League. The Stripes defeated Raiders Lija 4-1, San Gwann 6-1 and Kirkop United 3-0.

Raiders and San Gwann share second place with Swieqi United. Raiders Lija bounced back from the defeat to Birkirkara with a 4-2 win over Mgarr United and a 3-0 win over Swieqi United. San Gwann defeated Kirkop 2-1 and after losing to Birkirkara, beat Mgarr 2-0. Swieqi, on the other hand, defeated Mgarr 4-0 and Kirkop 2-0 in their first two outings before losing to Raiders.

Kirkop United and Mgarr United lie at the bottom of the table without any points.
