Hamrun bounce back with 3-1 win over Gudja

Hamrun Spartans returned to winning ways as they defeated Gudja United 3-1 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts the Spartans in third place on level points with Floriana, Gzira and Valletta although these have a game in hand. For Gudja, this was the fourth defeat in seven matches to stay in eighth place.

The Spartans took the lead one minute from the end of the first half thanks to Faissal El Bakhtaoui who received a through pass by Arthur Oyama and slotted past goalkeeper Glenn Zammit.

Hamrun doubled the score on the 64th minute when they were awarded a penalty after El Bakhtaoui was brought down inside the area by Rodolfo Soares and from the penalty spot, Arthur Oyama converted.

The Spartans scored the third goal on the 78th minute when Joseph Mbong exchanged the ball with Franklin Sasere and off the former’s cross from the right, a shot by Faissal El Bakhtaoui was deflected by Farid Romero Zuniga past Zammit for an own goal.

Gudja pulled one back six minutes from time thanks to a great goal by Aidan Friggieri who received a throw-in by Hubert Vella and chested the ball down before beating substitute goalkeeper Matthias Debono, who had just replaced Sanchez with a brilliant volley.
