Sliema Wanderers beat Valletta to register first win

Sliema Wanderers registered their first win as they came from behind to beat Valletta 2-1 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

A win which enables the Blues to leapfrog Santa Lucia but the latter have a game in hand. The Citizens, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to move second behind leaders Hibernians and ahead of Birkirkara.

Valletta took the lead on the 12th minute when off a corner by Ivan Curjuric, Eslit Sala rose high to head home past goalkeeper David Cassar.

Threee minutes in the second half, Sliema levelled matters courtesy of Dejan Vukovic who slotted the ball past Alessandro Guarnone from the right following a cross from the left by Myles Beerman.

Five minutes from time, substitute Danny Holla notched the winner for the Wanderers with a great freekick which saw the ball end in the top left corner past Guarnone..
