BOV Challenge League: Pembroke held by Lija

Pembroke Athleta failed to keep the pace with leaders Naxxar Lions in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they were held in a 1-1 draw by Lija Athletic at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.

Lydon Micallef converted a penalty to put Lija ahead on the 15th minute and Stefan Jankovic equalised twelve minutes in the second half

At the Centenary Stadium, Zejtun Corinthians defeated Melita 2-1 in a clash between the two teams sharing third place. Dylan Agius put Zejtun ahead just before half-time and Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves doubled the score on the 68th thanks to a penalty. Daniel Cutajar pulled one back on the 73rd.

Naxxar lead the way with 24 points, followed by Pembroke on 20, Zejtun 17, Melita 14, Marsaxlokk 10, San Gwann 9, Lija 8, Mqabba 7, Vittoriosa 6, Rabat 5 and St. George’s 1.

In Group B, Pieta’ Hotspurs regained the top spot thanks to a narrow win over Fgura United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium courtesy of a Zean Leonardi goal on the 23rd minute.

In another match from Group B, a goal by Neil Grech on the 41st minute handed Senglea Athletic an important win over Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Centenary Stadium.

Pieta’ lead the way with 19 points, followed by Tarxien on 16, Zebbug 14, Marsa 13, Swieqi 12, Fgura 11, Qrendi 10, Senglea 9, Mgarr 7, St Andrews and Luqa 6.
