Birkirkara rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with Mosta

Birkirkara joined Floriana and Valletta in second place following a 2-2 draw with Mosta at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

For the Stripes, this was the second successive draw and now stand on the 20-point mark with Floriana and Valletta although Valletta have a game in hand. Mosta, on the other hand, claim an important point to move fourth from bottom, one point ahead of Santa Lucia and Gudja and seven ahead of bottom-placed Sliema.

Mosta took the lead on the 12th minute when off a Ivan Doric freekick, Sunday Akinbule headed home past goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes.

Birkirkara equalised three minutes in the second half when Diego Venancio’s freekick from the left was partially saved by goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi and off the rebound, Kilian Bevis placed the ball at the back of the net.

The Blues regained the lead on the 56th when Sunday Akinbule served Johnson Nsumoh on the left and after entering the area beat the Birkirkara goalkeeper with a rising shot which saw the ball hit the crossbar before ending at the back of the net.

The Stripes restored equilibrium twelve minutes from time when off a cross from the left, Jeferson Macedo served Cain Attard who hit home from close range.
