Sirens pile further misery on Valletta

Vitor Vieira scored twice as Sirens came from behind to beat Valletta 2-1 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Citizens, therefore, suffered a fifth defeat in six matches to remain seventh on 21 points with Sirens moving fifth on 25.

Danilo Doncic was making his debut as Valletta coach with the Citizens also having Luis Carlos Murillo making his first appearance. Renato Neto, who was included as a substitute made his debut for the St. Paul’s Bay side.

Valletta took the lead on the 5th minute when off an assist by Mario Fontanella from the right, Ivan Curjuric placed the ball in the top left corner with a fine shot from inside the area.

Seven minutes later, Sirens equalised when off a cross by Degran Jackson, Vitor Vieira flicked the ball home past goalkeeper Alessandro Guarnone.

On the 23rd minute, Vitor Vieira doubled the score when he pounced on a through pass by Jackson on the left, beating Guarnone with a low shot from inside the area.

Seventeen minutes in the second half, Degran Jackson hit the crossbar for Sirens with a shot from outside the area.
