BOV Challenge League: Pembroke Athleta held by Marsaxlokk

Leaders Pembroke Athleta dropped two important points in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they were held in a 2-2 draw by Marsaxlokk at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Stefan Jankovic handed Pembroke a two-goal lead with goals on the 29th and 41st but Ryan Tonna pulled one back on the 61st and Xuan Cappellino equalised five minutes later.

In a match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, ten-man Mqabba came back from two goals down to hold Mqabba in a 2-2 draw.

Kurt Muscat put the Magpies ahead on the 38th and just before half-time, Darko Todorovski converted a penalty to double the score. However, a brace by Sam Lorn Kind on the 53rd and 89th enabled them to level matters.

Pembroke lead the way with 34 points, followed by Naxxar on 31, Melita and Zejtun 24, Marsaxlokk 23, Lija 21, Mqabba and San Gwann 17, Vittoriosa 13, Rabat 10 and St. George’s 4.

In Group B, Marsa moved second thanks to a 4-0 win over Qrendi at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Amadou Samb put Marsa ahead on the 12th minute and six minutes later, Clifford Gatt Baldacchino doubled the score. Luca Brincat extended the lead on the 71st and eight minutes later, Ryan Fenech added another.

St. Andrews defeated neighbours Swieqi United 4-1 at the Centenary Stadium.

Swieqi had a player sent off and Alexander Nilsson scored on the 21st and 24th to put the Saints two goals ahead. An own goal put Swieqi back in contention but Alexander Nilsson converted a penalty one minute from the end of the first half after Swieqi had another player sent off. Kei Sano made it 4-1 on the 69th.

Zebbug lead the way with 30 points followed by Marsa on 26, Tarxien 25, Pieta 24, Qrendi 20, Fgura, St. Andrews and Swieqi 19, Senglea 12, Mgarr 10 and Luqa 7.
