BOV National Amateur League: Zurrieq hit seven past Mtarfa

Zurrieq regained the top spot in Group B of the BOV National Amateur League as they defeated Mtarfa with an incredible 7-0 score at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Shawn Darmanin put Zurrieq ahead on the 14th and Kurt Darmanin doubled the score on the 27th. Timothy Thomas made it 3-0 on the 33rd and Kurt Darmanin added another in added time. In the second half, Zurrieq scored another three goals thanks to Andre Joe Cutajar on the 47th, Giovanni Galea on the 82nd and Miguel Simiana on the 89th.

Goals by Lazar Doric on the 25th, Jack Vella on the 58th and Andy Paul Camilleri on the 64th handed Mdina Knights a 3-0 win over Mellieha at the Sirens Stadium.

Zurrieq lead the way with 29 points, followed by Marsaskala on 26, Mtarfa and Zabbar on 22, Mdina 12, Kirkop 11, Mellieha 10, Qormi 9, Sta. Venera 8.

In Group A, Attard stay top thanks to a narrow win over Kalkara Unired at the Luxol Stadium courtesy of Nicholas Schembri on the 74th.

A goal before half-time by Igechukwu Igwemeke enabled Gharghur to keep the pace with the leaders as they beat Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0 at the Sirens Stadium.

In another match, Ghaxaq defeated Siggiewi 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Rio Micallef put Ghaxaq ahead on the 36th and although Ryan Muscat equalised onthe 68th, Lian Sciberras handed Ghaxaq the three points with a goal on the 86th.

Attard lead the way with 28 points, followed by Gharghur on 26, Kalkara on 23, Msida 19, Birzebbuga 17, Xghajra 15, Dingli and Ghaxaq 11, Ta’ Xbiex and Siggiewi 9. Attard had nine points deducted.
