BOV National Amateur League: Zurrieq move six points clear ahead of Marsaskala-Zabbar derby

Leaders Zurrieq moved six points clear in Group B of the BOV National Amateur League thanks to a narrow win over Kirkop United at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

Ivan Bojovic scored the only goal just before the end of the first half.

Zurrieq lead the way with 32 points, followed by Marsaskala on 26, Mtarfa and Zabbar on 22, Mdina 15, Kirkop 11, Mellieha 10, Qormi 9, Sta. Venera 8.

Meanwhile in Group A, third-placed Kalkara United failed to join Gharghur in second place after losing 1-2 to Xghajra Tornados at the Sirens Stadium.

Gaynor D’Amato put Xghajra ahead on the 2nd minute and Glenn Brincat doubled the score on the 74th. Jean Claude Cesare pulled one back on the 92nd.

Msida St. Joseph maintained the challenge for promotion with a 3-0 win over Dingli Swallows at the Luxol Stadium courtesy of Isaac Chircop on the 5th and a brace by Daniel Claridge on the 25th and 49th.

On the other hand, Siggiewi and Ta’ Xbiex shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a bottom of the table clash at the Sirens Stadium. Mauro Busuttil put Ta’ Xbiex ahead on the 25th but Melchior Tonna equalised two minutes later and Rene Duca put Siggiewi ahead ten minutes from time. However, two minutes in added time, Andrew Xuereb notched the equaliser.

Attard lead the way with 28 points, followed by Gharghur on 26, Kalkara 23, Msida 22, Xghajra 18, Birzebbuga 17, Ghaxaq and Dingli 11, Siggiewi and Ta’ Xbiex 10. Attard had nine points deducted.
