Floriana are the new leaders of the BOV Premier League as two second-half goals handed them a 2-0 win over in-form Gudja United at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
The Greens move one point ahead of Hibernians as they extend their unbeaten run to ten matches with a fourth successive win. Gudja, on the other hand, remain seventh on 26 points, three behind fourth-placed Hamrun Spartans and one behind Gzira United and Sirens, who both have a game in hand.
Both sides were unable to field their best formation due to the absence of goalkeeper Georgi Kitanov and Emiliano Callegar for Floriana and Gudja goalkeeper Glenn Zammit who were all ruled out through suspension.
Following a goalless first half, Floriana took the lead on the 67th minute when off a cross by Andrei Ciolacu, Adam Magri Overend served Jan Busuttil who beat goalkeeper Duncan Formosa with a low shot, ending in the bottom left corner.
Ten minutes from time, the Greens doubled the score courtesy of substitute Kemar Reid who exchanged the ball with Jan Busuttil before hitting low past Formosa from close range.
