The first phase of the BOV Premier League 2021/22 comes to an end this weekend with two matches on Friday and four on Saturday.
Floriana, Hibernians, Birkirkara, Gzira United and Hamrun Spartans are sure of playing among the top six while Balzan, Santa Lucia and Sliema Wanderers will be playing among the bottom six. Sirens, Gudja United, Valletta and Mosta will be fighting for the remaining spot among the top six.
At the National Stadium, kick-off at 19:00, Hamrun Spartans take on Sliema Wanderers.
The Spartans are currently fourth on 32 points while the Wanderers lie at the bottom of the table with 12. After failing to win in seven matches, Hamrun returned to winning ways last week, defeating Santa Lucia 1-0. Sliema, on the other hand, held Birkirkara in a goalless draw after suffering back-to-back defeats to Valletta and Mosta.
In the first round, Hamrun defeated Sliema 2-0.
At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, also kick-off at 19:00, Balzan face Santa Lucia.
Four points separate the two teams as Balzan are currently tenth on 23 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 19. Both teams will be all out to claim the three points as the battle against relegation intensifies. Balzan won just one out of the last nine matches, losing 0-1 to Hibernians last week. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, lost 0-1 to Hamrun following back-to-back wins over Birkirkara and Valletta.
In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw.
