BOV Challenge League: Marsaxlokk move second, Fgura stun Pieta’

Marsaxlokk moved second in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated San Gwann by the odd goal in five at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Alexandre Floriano Lopes put San Gwann ahead on the 11th but Peter Xuereb equalised on the 21st and two minutes later, Augusto Rene Caseres made it 2-1. Alexandre Floriano Lopes restored equilibrium for San Gwann five minutes in the second half but Xuan Cappellino notched the winner on the 73rd.

Pembroke lead the way with 41 points, followed by Marsaxlokk on 35, Zejtun and Naxxar on 34, Melita 30, San Gwann 26, Lija 24, Mqabba 17, Rabat and Vittoriosa 13 and St. George’s 4.

Meanwhile in Group B, Pieta’ Hotspurs missed the chance to take sole leadership as they lost 1-3 to Fgura United.

Donys Quintero put Fgura ahead on the 19th and Jeremy Micallef doubled the score three minutes later. Yuto Morita reduced the gap on the 69th but Rafael Conrado Prudente sealed the issue with a goal three minutes in added time.

Zebbug and Pieta’ lead the way with 36 points, followed by Tarxien on 34, Marsa 32, Fgura 28, St. Andrews 25, Qrendi and Swieqi 20, Senglea 12, Mgarr 11 and Luqa 10.
