BOV National Amateur League: Attard secure promotion to the Challenge League

Despite starting the season with a nine-point deduction, Attard secured promotion from Group A of the BOV National Amateur League as they defeated Msida St. Joseph 3-0 at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.

Nicholas Schembri scored a hat-trick with goals on the 26th, 53rd and 76th.

Gharghur were held in a 2-2 draw by Dingli Swallows at the Sirens Stadium.

Karl Azzopardi put Gharghur ahead on the 16th minute but Robert Ciantar equalised three minutes later and although Jean Scholey restored the lead for Gharghur on the 68th, Luke Galea equalised five minutes from time.

Kalkara United and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Luxol Stadium.

Julian Zammit put Kalkara ahead on the 2nd minute but one minute in the second half, Kenneth Ekezie levelled matters.

Attard lead the way with 38 points, followed by Gharghur on 31, Birzebbuga 27, Kalkara and Msida 25, Xghajra 21, Siggiewi 14, Ta’ Xbiex 13, Dingli 12 and Ghaxaq 11. 

In Group B, at the Luxol Stadium, Mellieha defeated Qormi 4-2.

Giuseppe Galea Curmi handed Mellieha a two goal lead with goals on the 13th and 39th. Thomas Grima pulled one back just before half-time but early in the second half, Galea Curmi made it 3-1. Leon Theuma scored a second goal for Qormi on the 64th but Etienne Cutajar made it 4-2 on the 93rd.

Zurrieq lead the way with 38 points, followed by Marsaskala on 32, Zabbar 31, Mtarfa 28, Mdina 18, Mellieha 13, Kirkop 11, Qormi 9 and Sta. Venera 8.
