BOV Challenge League: Marsaxlokk secure promotion

Marsaxlokk were promoted to the BOV Premier League after defeating Vittoriosa Stars 6-0 in a match from Group A of the BOV Challenge League at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. A win which enabled them to leapfrog Zejtun Corinthians who had to settle for third place.

Terence Vella put the Southseasiders ahead after just four minutes. Xuan Cappellino scored three on the 12th, 29th and 34th to hand Marsaxlokk a comfortable lead by the end of the first half. Peter Paul Sammut extended the lead further on the 68th with Walter Omar Serrano making it 6-0 six minutes later.

At the Centenary Stadium, Group A winners Pembroke Athleta beat Naxxar Lions 1-0 thanks to a goal by Weverton Gomes on the 58th. Pembroke therefore preserved their unbeaten record.

Pembroke end their commitments on 48 points, followed by Marsaxlokk on 41, Zejtun 40, Naxxar 37, Melita 33, San Gwann 30, Lija 28, Mqabba 20, Vittoriosa 16, Rabat 13 and St. George’s 5. Vittoriosa, Rabat and St. George’s were relegated to the National Amateur League.
