Valletta, University of Malta and Siġġiewi booked a place in the quarter finals of the E&L Futsal Trophy after winning their respective encounters.
Valletta obtained a handsome 8-2 win over Ta’ Xbiex to seal their place in the last eight with style. Luke Gatt notched a hat-trick while Robert Stoyanov hit the target twice. Jhonn Anderson, Andre Ciancio and Michael Borg also put their names in the score sheet. Kurt Bartolo and Redeemer Borg scored Ta’ Xbiex’s goals.
University of Malta saw off Naxxar Lions 6-2 in a match which they dominated for long stretches. Steven Azzopardi and Guillherme Fonseca had a brace each while Jean Noel Azzopardi and Dean Farrugia added more goal for their team. Josef Azzopardi and Antoine Barbara scored for Naxxar.
Siġġiewi needed extra-time to eliminate Marsaskala with an 8-7 score. The Southseasiders played a very good match and managed to keep the pace with their opponents for long stretches. Andre Joe Cutajar and Jean Lopes scored a brace while Justin Theuma, Paul Bugeja, Andrea Rufa and Shataizan Zarb were also on the mark for Siġġiewi.
A double by Josef Balzan, Ismael Tabone, Matthew Grima, Ryan Pisani, Jean Corredor and Chris Azzopardi scored Marsaskala’s goals.
Meanwhile the E & L Futsal Trophy resumes this week with four interesting encounters as Luxol take on rivals Valletta while St George’s face Qormi. On the other hand, Melllieħa cross swords with University of Malta and Żurrieq play against Siġġiewi.
