Gudja United moved, at least temporarily, on top the BOV Premier League table as two early goals handed them a 2-1 win over Zebbug Rangers at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
Andrea Agostinelli’s side lead the way with 10 points, one ahead of Hamrun Spartans and Birkirkara, who have a game in hand. Zebbug, on the other hand, suffer the third defeat in four matches.
The inclusion of Karl Micallef was the only change for Gudja from their last game as he replaced Hubert Vella while Brian Spiteri named an unchanged side for Zebbug following the win over Santa Lucia.
Gudja took the lead after just four minutes when off a cross by Samuel Gomes from the left, Vito Plut headed home past goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi.
On the 17th minute, Gudja doubled the score thanks to Johann Bezzina who beat Azzopardi from close range following an inviting cross by Karl Micallef.
Zebbug pulled one back eight minutes from time courtesy of Charles Lokoli Ngoy who hit home from close range following a freekick from the left by Roberto Sanchez and an assist by Leandro Almeida.
