Malta to play friendly match against Ireland

Malta will play a friendly match against Ireland at the National Stadium on November 20.

Devis Mangia’s side will use this friendly match as they prepare for the next international commitments in the UEFA EURO 2024 with qualifiers to start in March 2023.  Malta is yet to know who their opponents in the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying group stage will be.  The draw will be staged in Frankfurt on October 9.

Malta and Ireland met 7 times; 4 Euro Championship qualifiers, 2 World Cup 1990 qualifiers and a friendly match in 1990. Ireland claimed all the wins. The last match was played way back on the 8th September 1999 at Ta’ Qali. The match was a Euro Championship qualifier. The end result was 3-2 for the visitors. Coincidentally that was the only time that the Malta team found the net against Ireland. David Carabott and Brian Said scored the Maltese goals.
