Assikura Women’s League: Swieqi hit fifteen past Mtarfa

A staggering 25 goals were scored in this week’s three games from Matchday 3 of the Assikura Women’s League.

Swieqi United scored 15 of those 25 goals as they picked up their first win of the season against Mtarfa.  Raiders Lija followed with five goals as they defeated San Ġwann 5-1, with youngster Lexine Farrugia grabbing a hat-trick.

However, the highlight win of the week was recorded by Mġarr United who cancelled a one-goal deficit to inflict Hibernians their first defeat of the season.

The Greens, under Michael Mangion, went one goal down when Hibernians drew first blood through Yolande Attard.

Nonetheless, Mġarr still managed to find a way to get back into the game with captain Brenda Borg scoring her fifth goal of the season to level terms.

In the second half, Mġarr scored two more goals through Kelly Agius Pace and Abigail Camilleri to join the Paolites on six points.

Swieqi picked up their first win of the season in style with Dorianne Theuma scoring her now 401st goal in local competitions after being one of the scorers in their 15-0 win.

Newly-signed American winger Tatiana Dabney opened her Swieqi account with four goals while Jade Flask netted a hat-trick. Jessica Dimech scored twice while Theuma, Shona Zammit, Fernanda Peinado, Emma Xuereb and Mariah Sciberras all grabbed a goal each.

Raiders Lija survived an early scare when San Ġwann drew first blood through Martina Schembri after just six minutes.

However, Denis Guerra’s side managed to turn the game to their favour with Leah Ayres and Lexine Farrugia scoring twice in a span of one minute just before the half-time whistle.

Farrugia, who joined the club from Birkirkara during the summer, scored another two goals after the change of ends before Anna Aloisio wrapped up the win with the fifth goal.
