Tricky Mosta test for Hamrun Spartans

After dropping their first points in a draw with Birkirkara, Hamrun Spartans will be all out to return to winning ways as they take on Mosta in one of the four BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday. Hibernians face Gudja United, Valletta take on Gzira United while Pieta’ Hotspurs cross swords with Santa Lucia in the other three matches.

In the first match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Hamrun face Mosta.

The Spartans were held in a goalless draw by Birkirkara last week and therefore a win is a must to ensure they stay two points clear of the Stripes and Gzira United. Mosta, on the other hand, are currently seventh on 11 points and are coming from a fine 3-1 win over Valletta which enabled them to extend their positive run to four matches.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Hibernians take on Gudja United.

Three wins in their last three outings, including last week’s 3-2 win over Santa Lucia, enabled the Paolites to climb into the fifth place on 13 points, together with Balzan, one point behind fourth-placed Gudja. Andrea Agostinelli’s side won four out of the first five matches but following a 1-1 draw with Birkirkara, they suffered their first defeat on Monday, losing 1-2 to Marsaxlokk.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 17:15, Valletta face Gzira United.

Suffering four defeats in the last four matches leaves Valletta no option other than targeting maximum points from this clash with Gzira as they lie joint-fourth from bottom. In five matches, the Citizens, who lost 1-3 to Mosta in their last outing, conceded eight goals, scoring one. Gzira, on the other hand, won their last four games, defeating Floriana 1-0. Along with Hamrun and Birkirkara, the Maroons, who share the second place with the Stripes, are still unbeaten.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 17:30, Pieta’ Hotspurs take on Santa Lucia in a clash between the bottom two teams.

Two points separate the two teams with the Hotspurs lying two points ahead. Pieta’ lost their first six matches but defeated Zebbug 1-0 last week. On the other hand, Santa Lucia lost the first four game and following a 2-2 draw with Marsaxlokk, lost 2-3 to Hibernians last week.
