BOV Challenge League: Sliema march on

Leaders Sliema Wanderers march on in the BOV Challenge League as they registered an eighth win in as many matches, defeating Lija Athletic 1-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.

Aidan Friggieri scored the all-important goal on the 5th minute.

Melita kept the pace with the top three teams as they defeated Marsa 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium courtesy of Hiroya Konno on the 5th minute and Anderson de Barros on the 35th.

At the Centenary Stadium, Tarxien Rainbows registered a fine 4-1 win over Attard. Emmanuel Mbong put the Rainbows ahead on the 12th minute and three minutes later, Thiago Nonato Peixoto doubled the score. Bledi Alla pulled one back on the half hour but in added time, Thago Nonato Peixoto and Daneel Abela extended the lead to 4-1.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi United registered a comfortable 3-0 wn over Vittoriosa Stars thanks to a brace by Johan Alberto Castano on the 45th and the 70th and Roderick Taliana on the 51st.

On the other hand, St. Andrews defeated Zurrieq 3-1. William James England put the Saints ahead on the 8th minute and although Igor Misan equalised a minute later, Alan Borg Olivier restored the lead on the 23rd and England added another on the 54th.

Sliema lead the way with 24 points, followed by Naxxar on 19, Zejtun 18, Melita 16, Fgura, Lija and Tarxien 14, Swieqi, Zurrieq and St. Andrews 11, Attard 9, Marsa, Mtarfa and San Gwann 8, Vittoriosa 7, Mqabba 6, Qrendi 4 and Marsaskala 3.
