Spartans move seven points clear

Hamrun Spartans moved seven points clear at the top of the BOV Premier League table as they came from behind to beat Gzira United 2-1 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

For Gzira, this was the first defeat this season, leaving Hamrun as the only unbeaten side in the Premier League. Gzira now lie just one point ahead of Birkirkara, Gudja and Hibernians.

The Maroons managed to take the lead on the 25th minutes when off a Ricardo Correa corner from the left, Luke Tabone rose high to head home past goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

Hamrun levelled matters on the 32nd minute when Elvis Mashike took full advantage of a misunderstanding between goalkeeper Darijan Radelic Zarkov and Marko Cosic to place the ball at the back of the net.

The Spartans notched the winner with eleven minutes to go when Roko Prsa served substitute Luke Montebello from the right and the Malta international striker slotted the ball past the Gzira goalkeeper.
