Hamrun Spartans hope to return to winning ways as Gzira United face Balzan test

All BOV Premier League clubs will be back in action this weekend with three matches on Saturday and four on Sunday.

At the National Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 12:00, Sirens take on Hibernians.

Back-to-back wins over Gudja United and Marsaxlokk enabled Sirens to move clear of the bottom three teams as they now lie fourth from bottom on 12 points. They are unbeaten in five matches and against the Paolites, they will be aiming for another positive result. However, Hibs, who are currently third on 21 points, seek maximum points in their bid to leapfrog Gzira United in second place. They are coming from a 2-1 win over Pieta’ Hotspurs following back-to-back 1-1 draws with Marsaxlokk and Birkirkara.

At the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 12:00, Gzira United face Balzan.

Lying six points behind leaders Hamrun Spartans, the Maroons will be all out to return to winning ways to claim the three points from this clash. Following a fine run of four consecutive wins, Gzira were held in a draw by Valletta, lost to Hamrun and following a win over Mosta, they were held in a draw by Birkirkara. Balzan are currently ninth on 14 points and a positive result would enable them to steer away from the lower part of the table. They failed to win in their last five matches following draws with Sirens and Floriana and defeats to Valletta, Hamrun and Mosta.

In another match at the National Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 14:15, Floriana take on Marsaxlokk.

Three wins against Zebbug, Santa Lucia and Gudja enabled Floriana to move fifth on 18 points and another win on Saturday could possibly put them in third and fourth place. Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, are currently tenth on 13 points after dropping five points in their last two outings following a 1-1 draw with Pieta’ and losing 1-2 to Sirens.

At the Centenary Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 11:30, Hamrun Spartans meet Santa Lucia.

Following the 2-4 defeat to Zebbug Rangers, Hamrun Spartans will be all out to claim the three points from this clash. For the Spartans, this was the first defeat after nine wins and a draw from the first ten matches. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, are second from bottom on five points and a positive result from this clash would definitely be a major boost after suffering back-to-back defeats to Floriana and Valletta.

At the National Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 11:30, Pieta’ Hotspurs face Birkirkara.

Lying at the bottom of the table with four points from eleven matches, the Hotspurs will be aiming at making life difficult for the Stripes. Birkirkara, on the other hand, are currently fourth on 19 points but failed to win in the last six matches, losing two games and earning the points in four draws, including the last two games against Hibernians and Gzira

At the Centenary Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 14:00, Mosta face Zebbug Rangers.

Three wins in six matches enabled Mosta to move sixth on 17 points together with Gudja United. Following a fine 2-1 win over Birkirkara, they lost to Gzira but bounced back with a 2-1 win over Balzan. Meanwhile despite lying third from bottom, Zebbug Rangers’ morale is sky high following the 4-2 win over leaders Hamrun Spartans. They hope to continue where they have left on Sunday with another positive result to move clear of Santa Lucia and Pieta’ Hotspurs.

At the National Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 14:00, Valletta take on Gudja United.

Two points separate the two teams with Gudja lying in joint-sixth place with Mosta on 17 points, two ahead of Valletta. After winning four out of the first five matches, Gudja struggled a bit, winning just one out of the next six games and losing four out of the last five. They are, in fact, coming from two back-to-back defeats to Sirens and Floriana. Valletta, on the other hand, won their last three games, defeating Balzan, Zebbug and Santa Lucia.
