Birkirkara joined Gzira United in third place as they returned to winning ways, defeating Pieta’ Hotspurs 5-1 at the National Stadium on Sunday.
The Hotspurs had their fair share of scoring opportunities early in the game but once Birkirkara took the lead, they never looked back to register a comfortable win.
Birkirkara forged ahead on the 38th minute when off an overhead kick by Osvaldo Iorio, served by Paul Mbong, Simon Zibo beat Alampasu with a great first time effort.
Six minutes later, the Stripes doubled the score courtesy of Enzo Daniel Cabrera who hit home from close range when served by Alex da Paixao from the right.
Seventeen minutes in the second half, Birkirkara made it 3-0 with a direct freekick by Nemanja Radojevic after goalkeeper Dele Alampasu brought Cabrera down outside the area.
Birkirkara scored a fourth goal on the 71st when Alex da Paixao sent Enzo Daniel Cabrera through and the latter anticipated the goalkeeper with a low shot from the left.
The Hotspurs reduced the gap on the 77th when Yuto Morita had a powerful shot saved partially by Sylla and Terence Agius, placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound.
However, two minutes from time, Birkirkara made it 5-1 thanks to Alex da Paixao who exchanged the ball with Neil Micallef on the left before slotting the ball past the Pieta’ goalkeeper.
