Leaders Hamrun Spartans will be hoping to extend the lead on top the BOV Premier League table as they take on Gudja United with second-placed Hibernians facing Floriana.
At the National Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 13:00, Birkirkara cross swords with Balzan.
Five points separate the two teams as the Stripes are currently joint-third on 22 points with Balzan eighth on 17. After collecting just four points from the previous six matches, Birkirkara returned to winning ways last Sunday, defeating Pieta’ Hotspurs 5-1 and another win on Saturday could at least put them temporarily in second place. Balzan also returned to victory as they defeated Gzira United 1-0. It was the first win for Balzan after two draws and three defeats.
At the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 13:00, Pieta’ Hotspurs take on Sirens.
Despite losing 1-5 to Birkirkara, the Hotspurs showed some good ideas in the opening stages and against Sirens, they will be aiming for a positive result in order to abandon the bottom spot as they are currently last on four points after losing ten of the twelve matches played so far. Sirens, on the other hand, lie in the eleventh place on 12 points. They lost narrowly to Hibernians in their last outing but claimed maximum points from the previous two matches against Gudja and Marsaxlokk.
At the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 11:30, Zebbug Rangers face Gzira United.
Lying third from bottom on seven points, Zebbug hope they can upset Gzira United in the same way they did with Hamrun. However, in their last outing, the Rangers were beaten 0-2 by Mosta. The Maroons fell into third place after the 0-1 loss to Balzan and are therefore eager to return to winning ways after winning just one out of the last five matches. A win over Zebbug would at least temporarily lift them into second place.
At the National Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 14:00, Gudja United take on Hamrun Spartans.
After claiming just four points from the previous six matches, Gudja United returned to winning ways on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 win over Valletta which enabled them to move fifth on 20 points, on level points with Mosta. Hamrun, on the other hand, extended the lead on top the BOV Premier League table to seven points thanks to a 2-0 win over Santa Lucia.
At the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 14:00, Marsaxlokk face Valletta.
Just one point separates the two teams with the Citizens lying in ninth place on 15 points, one ahead of the Southseasiders. A good run of three successive wins for Valletta was brought to an abrupt halt as they lost to Gudja last week. Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Floriana despite ending the game in nine men. This was the seventh positive result in eight matches for Pablo Doffo’s side.
At the Centenary Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 19:00, Santa Lucia take on Mosta.
Lying second from bottom on five points, Vincenzo Potenza’s side are desperate for points as they are coming from three successive defeats, including the 0-2 loss to Hamrun. Mosta, on the other hand, eye maximum points from this clash after winning three out of the last four matches. In their last outing, they defeated Zebbug 2-0.
At the National Stadium on Monday, kick-off at 19:30, Hibernians cross swords with Floriana.
Four days after defeating them on penalties in the BOV Super Cup, Hibernians will be seeking maximum points from this clash in order to keep the pace with leaders Hamrun Spartans as they trail by seven points. Hibernians won six out of the last eight matches, defeating Sirens 1-0 in their last league game. Floriana, on the other hand, were held in a 1-1 draw by Marsaxlokk after claiming maximum points from the previous three matches. They are currently seventh on 19 points.
