Sirens stun Birkirkara to register fourth win in five matches

A goal in the first half handed Sirens another three precious points as they defeated Birkirkara 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Friday.

The St. Paul’s Bay side therefore move further away from the danger zone as they join Valletta in ninth place on 18 points, eleven points ahead of Zebbug Rangers who are currently third from bottom.

Birkirkara, on the other hand, lost the opportunity to join Gzira United in second place to stay fourth, three points behind the Maroons and two behind Hibernians, who have a game in hand.

Yannick Yankam was unlucky to hit the woodwork after fifteen minutes for the Stripes with a header.

Sirens took the lead on 36 minutes thanks to a direct freekick by Marcelo Pereira Muniz which beat goalkeeper Giacomo Nava.

Just past the hour, Rei Tachikawa could have added another for Sirens but his attempt hit the upright.
