BOV Challenge League: Sliema regain three point lead

Sliema Wanderers regained a three-point lead as they defeated St. Andrews 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium in one of three matches from the BOV Challenge League on Wednesday.

Neil Frendo put Sliema ahead six minutes from the end of the first half and in added time, Mohamed Abdulahi Awad doubled the score. Murilo Henrique Freire Bernardo sealed the issue with a third goal on the 74th minute.

Marsa came back from two goals down to hold Attard in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Kebba Kebell Suso handed Attard the lead on the 24th and Bledi Alla doubled the score on the 37th. However Dylan Grima reduced the gap on the 58th and an own goal restored equilibrium on the 69th.

In another match, Qrendi defeated Fgura United 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. A penalty by Claudio Antunes Pavlidis put Qrendi ahead after just eight minutes but Fgura turned the score in their favour with goals by Ewertton Jose Costa Silva on the 27th and Aroldo da Silva Arruda five minutes later. Ryan Cutajar equalised for Qrendi five minutes from the end of the first half but Fgura regained the lead thanks to another goal by Aroldinho on the 65th. However Claudio Antunes levelled matters on the 80th and notched the winner one minute in added time.

Sliema lead the way with 44 points, followed by Naxxar on 41, Zejtun on 33, Tarxien 28, Zurrieq 26, Melita 25, Fgura and St. Andrews 22, Marsa and Swieqi 21, Lija 20, Attard 18, San Gwann 15, Marsaskala and Mqabba 14, Qrendi 13, Vittoriosa 10 and Mtarfa 8.
