Gzira United scored three in the second half as they defeated Marsaxlokk 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday to move back in second place, one point ahead of Birkirkara and two ahead of Hibernians.
Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, suffer yet another defeat which leaves them just six points ahead of Santa Lucia.
Following a goalless first half, the Maroons took the lead on 46 minutes thanks to Jefferson de Assis following a swift counter-attack led by Maxuell Maia on the left.
Four minutes later, Gzira doubled the score when a cross by Marcelo Dias was not held by Drobnjak and Maxuell Maia placed the ball at the back of the net.
The Maroons sealed the issue with a third goal on the 70th thanks to a Gabriel Bohrer Mentz freekick which beat the Marsaxlokk custodian.
