Hibernians have appointed Silvio Vella as their new coach. He replaces Andrea Pisanu whose contract was terminated on Monday.
The Malta FA had earlier announced that Silvio Vella had been released from his contractual obligations with the association following his request to pursue coaching duties at club level.
Vella, who had served as coach of the Malta Under-19 team before joining Rabat Ajax and leading them in consecutive promotions from the Second Division to the Premier League, had re-joined the Malta FA Technical Sector in 2013 and after serving as assistant national coach with Pietro Ghedin, was appointed Under-21 national coach where he served for around seven years between 2014 and 2020. Since then, he occupied the role of Coordinator of the Football Hubs run by the Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation.
Hibernians are currently joint-fifth in the BOV Premier League table on 30 points, two behind Mosta, five behind Birkirkara, eight behind Gzira United and nineteen behind leaders Hamrun Spartans.
