BOV Challenge League: Third win in a row puts San Gwann closer to safety

San Gwann moved a step closer to securing their BOV Challenge League status as they defeated relegated side Mqabba 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Myron Micallef put San Gwann ahead on the 14th and although Omar Khatib levelled matters on the 24th, a brace by Reon Saito on the 60th and 85th handed San Gwann the three points.

This result also condemned Qrendi to the National Amateur League. Mqabba, Mtarfa and Vittoriosa had already been relegated.

Swieqi United registered a fine 4-0 win over Lija Athletic in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to goals by David Emmanuel Garba on the 1st minute, Jaden Camilleri on the 66th, Gilberto Carrara Martins Leite on the 86th and an own goal just before the end of the first half.

Mtarfa and Vittoriosa Stars shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Centenary Stadium in another game from the Play-Out.

Swieqi lead the way with 47 points, followed by St. Andrews on 39, Fgura 38, Lija 36, Marsa and San Gwann 34, Attard 31, Marsaskala 28, Qrendi 27, Mqabba, Mtarfa and Vittoriosa 21.

Meanwhile in a top-of-the-table clash, Sliema Wanderers defeated Naxxar Lions 2-0 courtesy of a Geoffrey Acheampong double on the 35th and 45th.

The Wanderers therefore move fourteen points clear of the Lions.
