Santa Lucia retain Premier League status

Santa Lucia will be staying among the elite of Maltese football after they defeated Zejtun Corinthains 2-0 in the BOV Premier League Play-Off at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Santa Lucia took the lead after just two minutes when off a Robert Hehedosh corner from the right, Kyrian Nwoko slotted the ball past goalkeeper Christopher Farrugia.

Santa Lucia doubled the score on the 16th minute when Robert Hehedosh concluded a solo effort with a lob over the goalkeeper from the edge of the area.

Enzo Potenza’s side continued to dictate the proceedings and went close to increasing the lead with a great header by Liam Ayad which ended just over the bar.

Eight minutes in the second half, Matthew Calleja Cremona came to the rescue for Santa Lucia as he turned into a corner in style a great freekick by James Brincat.

Finally the Santa Lucia goalkeeper performed a good save on a Kenley Scerri corner from the left two mintues from time.
