An extra incentive by VisitMalta for Maltese clubs taking part in UEFA competitions

VisitMalta will continue supporting local football clubs taking part in the main UEFA competitions and apart from the usual grant of €10,000, as from this season, teams could benefit from another €10,000 for each round they manage to surpass in the respective competition.

These details were announced in a news conference by the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo in the presence of the officials of the respective clubs.

This summer, Malta will be represented by Hamrun Spartans Football Club in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, by Birkirkara Football Club, Gzira United Football Club and Balzan Football Club in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League and by Birkirkara in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

These teams will have the VisitMalta brand on the kit they will play with in the UEFA competitions.

Minister Clayton Bartolo pointed out how the increase in the incentive for the local teams is a clear demonstration of how there should be nothing to stop us from making more success in sport, despite the size of the country.

The draws for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa Conference League are scheduled for June 20 while the draws of the UEFA Women’s Champions League round 1 should be held on June 30.
