The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League first qualifying round draw and 2023/24 UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round will be held on Tuesday at the House of European football in Nyon, Switzerland, at 14:00 and 15:00 respectively.

Seedings, any groupings and the procedure will be published early on Tuesday morning.

Malta will be represented by champions Hamrun Spartans in the UEFA Champions League and by FA Trophy winners Birkirkara, third-placed Gzira United and fourth-placed Balzan in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Thirty teams are involved in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League – 29 automatic entrants and the winner of the preliminary round.

Despite the fine run in the UEFA Europa Conference League last summer, Hamrun Spartans are unseeded.

The 30 teams are divided into three groups of ten teams (Groups 1 to 3). Within each of the three groups, the teams are divided into an equal number of seeded and unseeded teams.

In Group 3, Hamrun Spartans would be facing one team between FC Sheriff Tiraspol (MDA), FC BATE Borisov (BLR), FC Astana (KAZ), Maccabi Haifa FC (ISR) and HŠK Zrinjsk (BIH).

First legs are scheduled for 11/12 July with the second legs pencilled for 18/19 July.

The winners of each tie advance to the second qualifying round (Champions Path). Defeated sides switch to the Champions Path of the Europa Conference League, with 13 transferring to the second qualifying round and two receiving a bye to the third qualifying round.

On the other hand, sixty two teams enter the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Gzira United are one of the seeded teams while Balzan and Birkirkara are unseeded.

The 62 teams are divided into five groups of 10 teams (groups 1 to 5) and one group of 12 teams (group 6). Within each of the six groups, the teams are divided into an equal number of seeded and unseeded teams (31 seeded teams and 31 unseeded teams in total).

Balzan were placed in Group 1 and would face one team among Ararat-Armenia FC (ARM), FK Sutjeska (MNE), FK Sarajevo (BIH), FC Vaduz (LIE) and NK Domžale (SVN).

On the other hand, Birkirkara were placed in Group 2 and would be facing NK Maribor (SVN), Alashkert FC (ARM), FC Dinamo Batumi (GEO), La Fiorita 1967 (SMR) and FC Dinamo Minsk (BLR).

Gzira United were placed in Group 6 and would meet one team among Paide Linnameeskond (EST), Saint Patrick’s Athletic FC (IRL), KF Dukagjini (KOS), Glentoran FC (NIR), FC Hegelmann Litauen (LTU) and Penybont FC (WAL)

First legs will be played on July 13 with the return legs scheduled for July 20. The 31 winners advance to the second qualifying round (Main Path).
