Stoppage-time goal hands Birkirkara dramatic win in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifier

Birkirkara set-up a clash with Swiss champions FC Zurich in the final of Group 11 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League 2023/24 Round 1 after defeating FK Breznica of Montenegro 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

The Stripes will face FC Zurich – champions of Switzerland for 24 times – in the final at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday, kick-off at 18:00, while Breznica have to settle for third place in the group.

Following a goalless first half, things seemed going in the wrong direction for Birkirkara after Alishia Sultana was sent off on the 71st minute and Breznica twice went close to opening the score through captain Milica Sebek.

However Birkirkara had other thoughts and two minutes in added time, substitute Arianna Del Moral sent another substitute, Edith Garcia Falero, through and the latter slotted the ball past goalkeeper Svetlana Milicic.
