Vittoriosa Stars and St. George’s were the last two teams to reach the quarter-finals of the National Amateur Cup after registering wins in the Round of 16 at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday.
Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe scored twice as Vittoriosa beat Kalkara United 2-1. Ogunnupe converted a penalty ten minutes in the second half and although Thomas Grima equalised eight minutes from time, with two minutes to go, the Nigerian forward notched the winner for the Stars.
In another match, St. George’s defeated Mtarfa 4-1. A Saturday Nanapere penalty put Mtarfa ahead after just ten minutes but a brace by Rudy Cassar on the 17th and 18th turned the score in the Cospicua side’s favour. Emmanuel Mbong extended the lead on the 61st and three minutes from time, Haruna Shola Shodija sealed the issue with another goal.
The other teams in the draw which will be held on Tuesday are Ghaxaq, Kirkop United, Marsaskala, Mgarr United, Mqabba and Ta’ Xbiex.
