Mtarfa joined Qrendi on top in Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League as they registered a fine 3-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Charles Abela Stadium on Saturday.
Giancarlo Micallef put Mtarfa ahead on the 12th minute and Kurt Borg scored twice on the 46th and 49th.
Rabat Ajax dropped to third place after suffering their first defeat to Xghajra Tornados at the Sirens Stadium. Ryden Gatt converted a penalty on the 16th to put Rabat ahead but Nestor Luis Silva equalised on the 66th and two minutes in added time, Thomas GIles notched the winner.
Deison Arvey Cuero notched a hat-trick as Siggiewi scored three late goals to beat Mdina Knights at the Sirens Stadium in the basement clash. Cuero opened the score on the 82nd and added another two goals in added time.
On the other hand, Santa Venera Lightnings joined Birzebbuga and Pembroke in fourth place as they defeated the same Pembroke Athleta 3-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Matthias Vella put the Lightnings ahead on the 13th, Jesmael Catania doubled the score on the 52nd and Richmond Baratuipre Hanson sealed the issue with a third goal on the 74th.
Mtarfa and Qrendi lead the way with 16 points, followed by Rabat on 14, Birzebbuga, Pembroke and Santa Venera 12, Xghajra 10, Mqabba 9, Kalkara and Mellieha 7, Siggiewi 4 and Mdina 1.
