Floriana take on eternal rivals Valletta in bid to move three points clear

Floriana eye maximum points from the clash with eternal rivals Valletta in their bid to move three points clear in the BOV Premier League as four matches in programme at the National Stadium and the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

At the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 11:00, Naxxar Lions take on Gudja United.

The Lions will be hoping to extend their positive run which saw them earn twelve points in three wins and three draws from the last six matches. On the other hand, Gudja seek their first win after earning five points in five draws from the first eight matches. In fact, they lost just one of the last four matches. However following Santa Lucia’s win over Mosta, Gudja are now second from bottom, seven points behind eighth-placed Naxxar.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Floriana cross swords with Valletta.

The Greens share the top spot with Hamrun Spartans but following the latter’s defeat to Birkirkara, a win would put Mauro Camoranesi’s side three points clear. They are the only unbeaten side in the BOV Premier League and are coming from back-to-back wins over Sirens and Sliema. Valletta, on the other hand, are currently tenth on 10 points but hope to upset their rivals in order to climb further up the table. They failed to win in the last three matches, losing to Hamrun, earning just two points in draws with Gzira and Santa Lucia.

At the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 14:00 Gzira United face Marsaxlokk.

Two points separate the two teams with Marsaxlokk sharing third place with Hibernians, Sliema, Birkirkara and Balzan on 13 points and Gzira lying in ninth place on 11. The Southseasiders lost three out of the last four matches, earning maximum points from the clash with Birkirkara but the positive performance against Hamrun will definitely fill them with courage. The Maroons, on the other hand, won three out of the last five matches, defeating Mosta 3-0 in their last outing.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 16:15, Hibernians take on Sliema Wanderers.

The two teams share third place with Marsaxlokk, Birkirkara and Balzan and therefore both teams will be all out to claim maximum points in order to stay sure of staying third. Hibs registered back-to-back wins over Gudja and Sirens in their last two games while Sliema lost to Floriana 0-2 after claiming six points from the games against Gzira and Santa Lucia.
