Hamrun Spartans moved once again three points behind leaders Floriana as they defeated Gzira United 2-1 at the National Stadium on Wednesday.
The Spartans therefore returned to winning ways in the BOV Premier League after the shock 0-3 defeat to Birkirkara in their previous league outing.
Gzira, on the other hand, remain ninth on 11 points as they suffer their fifth defeat in ten matches.
The Spartans took the lead two minutes in the second half when off a freekick by Yuliyan Nenov from the left, Eder Bruno Domingos headed home past goalkeeper Darijan Zarkov.
Hamrun doubled the score eight minutes from time with Luke Motebello concluding a good move on the left flank by rounding two defenders and hitting the ball home past the Gzira goalkeeper.
Five minutes in added time, Gzira reduced the gap courtesy of a Carlos Conceicao header off a corner from the right by Thiaguinho.
